Stardub - Episode 52: A Burnsing Sensation

We kick off the first in an unusual set of episodes of the Stardub podcast. Due to real life issues, it's proved a bit troublesome for Ralph and Andy to be available as the same time and given we have been a bit behind we decided to rope in some friends to help us get back on track.

Long time listeners it means we are still to give you the ending of the Sixth Doctor retrospective.

Andy has the controls so he has enlisted some help for this podcast where we not only debut the first replacement Ralph, but our ALL-NEW THEME TUNE, although it's not all-new to anything other than us as it was made for a computer game in 1987. Don't judge me, I get enough of that elsewhere. It's a splendid tune though.

The podcast team talk about the Lego Chima cartoon in this slighty truncated episode. What can possibly go wrong?

Grab the episode from HERE or via iTunes.

Super Easter Sunday Radioplay: Superman: Doomsday and Beyond

As a special treat for the Easter holidays, the second radioplay of the weekend covers an icon who died and returned from the dead to save us all - SUPERMAN! First airing on BBC Radio 5 in 1993 as a 4-part serial, it was later stripped down to 3 minute segments (But with additional scenes that were cut from the original for time) on Mark Goodier's Drivetime show on BBC Radio 1 a year later. It included in it's cast Stuart Milligan (Kraus in Jonathon Creek) as Superman, Lorelei King as Lois Lane and William Hootkins ("Porkins" in Star Wars) as Lex Luthor. It was an adaptation of the novel written by Louise Simonson, itself an adaptation of the comic book storylines written by Simonson and drawn / co-written by Dan Jurgens. It was the last series of BBC Superman adaptations, which included the original story "Superman on Trial" and "The Adventures of Superman" (an adaptation of John Byrnes' "Man of Steel" post-Crisis origin story).

The Geek Solo Show's Doctor Who and Amy Pond Action Figure Toy Review

Out of all the toy reviews I have done, this is one of the more special to me as I get to share my first experience with a new show and toy line!

Super Good Friday Radioplay: An American Werewolf in London

Decided to move the Super Saturday Radioplay forward by a day for the Easter holidays. There's going to be another play put out on Easter Sunday that's very appropriate for the easter season ;) In the meantime, here is "An American Werewolf in London" from Dirk Maggs' Radio 1 radioplay era, this time from 1997. Unlike the others, which were serialized on Mark Goodier's drivetime show, this was a little more adult than the comic book adaptations, so instead it was put out on nighttime comedy show "The Mark Radcliffe Show" after 10pm. I (Timey) remember staying up every night to listen to the show and really enjoyed it. The play is notable for the inclusion of original movie castmembers Jenny Agutter, Brian Glover and John Woodvine in their respective roles, as well as a bigger emphasis on backstory and characters interaction. If you listened to last week's Spider-Man radioplay, have a listen to see if you can hear members of that play's cast.

RCP - Episode 165: Dear ADV ... WHY!?!

Got another dose of RCP for you folks. Fun fact the original title of this was going to be something that I have no doubt would have caused problems. Much like the problems I now have after exposing my co-host StaticRift to the 1st episode of this mess that is Gravion: Zwei.

RCP Vs FF - Episode 103: 'THEY WERE YOUR FAMILY!!!'

The fanfic podcast is finally back with a brand new episode! Dying English returns as we consider giving up on this fanfic and moving on.

Plus we're sort of running out of Code Lyoko zombie images so that's another factor. Regardless please enjoy.

This week I take a look at a oldie but goldie. G1 Bombshell is a timeless toy and is a great addition to any collection!

Super Saturday Radioplay: The Amazing Spider-Man

This week, we travel to 1995, and to BBC Radio 1's adaptation of Spider-Man. This show includes a music track from Queen's Brian May, and was a modernization of Spidey's earliest comic books (Plotted by Stan Lee). This might as well be called "The Fantastic Four featuring Spider-Man" as the FF are actually quite prominent throughout the play, with a couple of their comics also being adapted). Originally the play was cut into daily 3-minute segments on the radio stations Drivetime show, with each week focusing on a single comic book adaptation, with the overarching story making up the play in full when played in one go. There was both a single release with Brain May's theme for the show (with multiple mixes including a "Brown Trousers" and a "White Trousers" mix) and the whole radioplay on a double CD. Unfortunately the BBC have lost the rights to reissue the audio, but here it is for your listening pleasure.

Back to the Eighties - Episode 142

Phil and Becca are back this week, and together with Glenn, they all set off on a journey to find the Thirteenth Colony of Man, searching through the Galaxy to find the mysterious planet known as Earth...oh, they found it.

There's also news though, mainly in the form of Transformers and GI Joe news, but still, NEWS.

They also have a discussion about cutting and pasting important events from history, and Doctor Who! Aren't you lucky. YOU be the judge!

Last year it was announced the show was returning not only with a brand new name but also as a live action sci-fi series and if you follow the MST fanfic podcast you know I like this show.

So as soon as subs appeared online I got my regular co-hosts Random Crap Ranger and StaticRift to discuss the 1st episode. Please enjoy.

Super Saturday Radioplay: Judge Dredd "The Day the Law Died"

For the next few Saturdays, we'll be putting up a full-length radioplay from the 1990s BBC Radio 1 drivetime era (So long as we can find them on the internet). Kicking things off is "Judge Dredd: The Day the Law Died" from 1995. The Beeb got the rights to two Judge Dredd 2000ad strips to cash-in on the Stallone Dredd movie that came out at the time. The play was stripped down to 3 min segments in Mark Goodier's Drivetime radio show. Sadly, after the two serials aired, the BBC declined to make more and the right expired not long afterwards). The serials were made by Dirk Maggs (a name you'll see in a lot of these entries) who also made the Superman & Batman serials in the early 90s, and who went on to make the latter Hitchhiker's Guide serials in the early 00's. A noticeable change in the audioplay for those who read the comic strip is the replacement of all scenes featuring Judge Giant with Judge Hershey (Who would be a much more recognizable character to those coming off the Stallone movie, as well as readers of the strip at the time). Anyway, sit back and enjoy this piece of underrated radio history.

What ho, chaps! Chocks away, tally ho, righty-dokey and all that, what? It's only Becca's turn this week at the spotlight, don't you know, and it's her first one to boot! She's only gone and bally well picked the 1986 'classic' movie Biggles now, hasn't she? You know, the one about the World War I pilot who has an American time twin in the 1980s? Wizard!

There's also ads from 1982 (the LWT region, where mater is from) and also all the news you'd ever want to shake a stick at, what?
